How will ranked work in Teamfight Tactics
Ranked mode for Teamfight Tactics is soon approaching, allowing for greater competitiveness in the mode. Ranked TFT is currently live on the PBE servers and is set to hit the live servers in patch 9.14. While the game mode on the PBE server does have several bugs likely due to the various changes such as the Twisted Fate addition and the ranked queue, it remains likely to continue its roll out in the next patch.
Given the differences between TFT and Summoners Rift, it’s no surprise Riot has planned a different ranked system. While the various tiers and divisions will remain the same ranging from Iron to Challenger, the LP gain and promotion is fairly different.
Placing 4th or above will grant a player some LP. As expected, placing first will be additionally rewarded with a considerable amount of LP given you have got to beat seven others. Finishing 5th or below will result in a loss of LP. Players placing near the middle will have minimal changes to their LP.
Promoting / demoting
Unlike normal ranked in Summoners Rift, there is no promotional series in TFT. Once a player hits or exceed 100 LP, they will promote to the next tier / division, with any remaining LP being carried over. Players will instantly demote if they are 0 lp and lose the following game.
Queueing with others
Players Gold or lower will be able to queue up to a group of five players. Any players ranked Platinum or above will only be able to queue up to a group of three.
- Iron / Bronze / Silver – Able to queue with players ranked between Iron and Gold
- Gold – Able to queue with players ranked between Iron and Platinum
- Platinum – Able to queue with players ranked between Gold and Diamond
- Diamond – Able to queue with players ranked between Platinum and Challenger
- Master / Grandmaster / Challenger – Able to queue with players ranked between Diamond and Challenger
This system allows a majority of players to queue with each other but aims to heavily restrict boosting towards the upper ranks from plat onwards.
