Is Honkai Star Rail Open World?
Honkai Star Rail is a mobile game created in 2021. It’s considered an action role-playing game in which players have to build and send a crew to fight monsters and other enemies across the galaxy.
This game has a fascinating story and amazing characters that stand out for their elemental powers. All this, with an excellent progression system that allows players to unlock new missions, weapons and even Honkai SR characters as they progress through its maps.
This is a high-quality game full of adventures on different maps and a large universe to explore. But is it an open-world game? In other words, can you freely explore the map without restrictions or loading screens?

Is Honkai Star Rail open world?
The concise answer would be no, Honkai Star Rail is not an open-world game. Unlike Genshin Impact, another game from the same developer, in Honkai Star Rail you won’t have the freedom to explore an open world without restrictions or interruptions.
Instead, this game is structured in chapters. They have different objectives and missions to complete. Honkai Star Rail is known as a “level” game, which has a map divided into smaller, separate zones that you have to load as you enter and exit them.
Why isn’t it open map?
It’s because Honkai: Star Rail has multiple planets to visit. Each planet has their own characteristics, narratives, enemy environments and rewards.
Each of these levels or planets has a series of objectives that must be completed before advancing to the next. While you can to explore, the game doesn’t let you stray too far from the main objective and they are still individual maps that are not linked together.
This can have its advantages and disadvantages, depending on the your taste.
On the one hand, it can be more convenient and quicker for some players. These objectives and levels allow you to access areas based on your skill. Once completed you can instantly access the maps again in the main menu.
On the other hand, it can be less engaging and fun, as you lose the sense of discovery and adventure that an open world offers.
In addition, the areas of each planet are not very large or varied but tend to be linear and repetitive in design, with few secrets or surprises to be found. Exploration is limited to following the marked path, collecting some resources, fighting some enemies and completing some quests. There are no puzzles, chests, events or interactions to enrich the experience.

Will Honkai Star Rail be Open World someday?
Unfortunately, Honkai: Star Rail is not an open-world game. It has a map divided into small areas.
If you prefer a non-multiplayer and level-based game where exploration is based on meritocracy, Honkai Star Rail may be the best option. But if you are looking for a game that focuses on exploration and has several of the features of the game, Genshin Impact, may be the best option.
As for Honkai Star Rail being an open-world game in the future, we doubt it. There are not any Honkai Star Rail leaks that claim this. It’s pretty unlikely for developers to simply re-do a game to change such a vital part of the gameplay.
