Netflix Geeked Week 2022: Schedule & What to expect from gaming series
Earlier this month, Netflix announced the Geeked Week 2022, featuring the sequels of two massively popular gaming series, alongside the debut of two more.
Netflix, the popular subscription streaming service, has been pumping out popular gaming series since the year 2021. That said, production began much earlier to give each series the storyline it deserves and keep it canon to the respective game’s lore.
Here’s the titles we are all looking forward to.
The Netflix Geeked Week 2022
Mark your calendars for June 6-10 as the five-day event celebrates the releases of geeky entertainments, including gaming series. The trailer released teased popular gaming series, such as the Cuphead Show, Sonic Prime, Tekken: Bloodline, DOTA Dragon’s Blood, and League of Legends Arcane series.
While the trailer featured Arcane, it’s not listed on schedule, which likely indicates that Season 2 is still in production. Nevertheless, the wait will certainly be worthwhile, considering how well-received the series was among LoL fans. We might potentially get a short teaser or a hint of what’s to come.

Netflix’s appeal towards the gaming audience
Games and movies weren’t always the best fit in TV/Cinema. Just look at what happened to the highly anticipated Warcraft film in 2016. Consider the plot is about human survivors attempting to survive an Orc horde from invading them through a magic portal. It’s just about as much plot as you had expected from a David and Goliath story. The same thing happened to Assassins Creed, and pretty much all game to movie adaptation.
Netflix’s take on gaming series is a more refreshing one then usual. It adheres to popular hero backstories, while also delivering an enticing plot in a short layered and digestible format. It keeps viewers wanting to discover more after each season finale, while also enticing new viewers to stick around.
In recent times, lore heavy titles have enough character arcs to develop a full blown series into several seasons that entice millions of die hard fans. It’s evident that Netflix is staking its audience interest on gaming series, as they acquired three gaming studio in six months. The studios include Next Games, Night School Studio, and most recently Boss Fight Entertainment. Furthermore, they collaborated with Studio Mir for DOTA Dragon’s Blood and Fortiche for LoL Arcane.
DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 3 confirmed
Take the DOTA series, Dragon’s Blood as an example. The first Book entails the story of Dragon Knight Davion, who received a curse and went on his journey to understand its origins. Alongside, he formed a romantic relationship with Mirana, the Priestess of the Moon, while also having meaningful relationships with friends.
Things quickly escalated in Book 2, where the season finale made viewers’ hearts ache for the many characters. Characters, such as the Marci, Lina, and Winter Wyvern got the viewers invested, only to have them killed off.
Yet, the main antagonist, Terrorblade hasn’t even made its physical debut, so there’s no telling what Book 3 is about. Hence, we are just as eager as everyone else to watch Book 3, scheduled for June 10.

Edgerunners, Cuphead, Tekken and Sonic to make you resubscribe
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners the awaited animated series based on the Cyberpunk series and co-producted by CD Projekt Red, the company behind Cyberpunk 2077 is finally ready for a reveal. We don’t know too much of what is to come, but every CP player that played a Street Kid should give a watch.
Cuphead, the boss fighting game with nostalgic animations that took the gaming community by storm is getting big on the screen as well. After streamers spent hours showcasing their painful experience of defeating difficult bosses, we get the Cuphead Show returning to the the misadventures of the protagonist, Cuphead, and his brother, Mugman, after they fell into the Devil’s deal. Certainly not the gaming series that fans expected, but it came in clutch as a well-made series, deserving of part 2.
There’s also Tekken: Bloodline, which narrates the story of Jin Kazama, as he searches for the origins of his legacy. Jin Kazama is the poster boy of the Tekken series and has a masculine complexion to please the Tekken fans.
Finally, Sonic Prime, a fancy new 3D-animated series, which as the name suggests, revolves around Sonic the Hedgehog. No further synopsis of the series is available yet, so we will just have to hope that it doesn’t turn out like the Sonic the Hedgehog 2020 movie.
Following Netflix’s recent plunge of 200,000 paid subscribers for the first time in a decade. The Geeked Week 2022 will be crucial to put Netflix back on everyone’s bucket list of monthly services.
