Tony Hawk Enters The Sandbox Metaverse!

Despite the bearish market within the crypto world, the gaming space is currently thriving with millions of users engaging with titles and the economies within them.

One title that has led the way is The Sandbox, a free to play Crypto/NFT MMORPG set within the metaverse.

It’s been full steam ahead for this title as a multitude of brands and influential people have collaborated to bring in-game experiences for players.

The most recent announcement sees skateboarding legend Tony Hawk have his say in the metaverse, introducing a virtual in-game skatepark!

Hopefully this will not be the last time we see Tony Hawk within Web3, as he was one of the main bodies who popularised the skateboarding game franchise since his game’s inception in 1999.

At the time of writing the Tony Hawk game series has amassed well over $1 billion in sales, spread over 4 gaming generations.

Different sports have delved into the metaverse offering their followers access to exclusive content. This announcement is the first of its kind, one Hawk himself is very eager to be a part of.

What to expect in this update

This update is brought to us by both Hawk and Autograph, the infamous online hub for all things NFT collectibles. Founded by prolific sports star Tom Brady.

As the Sandbox uses a land feature for those to build their own metaverse experiences on, the skatepark will be built on 6X6 LAND.

Players will be treated to usable NFT items in the form of skateboards and gear used by Hawk himself.

Better yet, these NFTs that are being brought to us by Autograph themselves will also possess utility and use cases for in-game experiences and abilities.

Excitement is in the air

Tony Hawk being a part of the metaverse is the first of its kind. No other title/project has brought forward this opportunity for the Skating sport.

Hawk himself has even proved to be excited for this upcoming collaboration, quoting:

“I have been a fan of new technology all of my life — from the first videogames and home computers with CGI capabilities — so I am fascinated by the metaverse and excited to bring our culture into the virtual landscape of The Sandbox,”.

Conquering traditional gaming is clearly not enough for Tony and his brand, therefore the metaverse is the only logical next step.

As mentioned, Hawk is not the first big name to jump into the Sandbox.

Players who have had access to the Open Beta have been treated to IPs from Adidas, Carebears, Deadmau5 and Ubisoft to name a few.

With plenty of collaborations being teased/announced recently. The Sandbox NFT game is a must play for those looking for a diverse game style.

There are also lucrative opportunities to earn NFTs and SAND tokens, the in-game token creating more incentive to play.
