Should VALORANT have all maps in Casual Queues?
At the start of VALORANT, there were a handful of game modes for fans to play. These were unranked, competitive, and deathmatch. Since then, many more maps and game modes have been added to the game. Currently, in VALORANT, there is the Unrated, Swiftplay, and Competitive. But they all have the same map pool. Riot Games, in a recent post, has announced that in patch 8.11 all maps will be available in causal game modes.
Should all VALORANT maps be in casual queues?
On May 22nd, in a post on their socials, Tiffy Tsay, the product manager of VALORANT, announced that from patch 8.11, all maps will be available to play on the following game modes:
- Swiftplay
- Unrated
- Escalation
- Spike Rush
Below is a list of all the maps that will be available in the above game modes:
- Ascent
- Haven
- Split
- Bind
- Icebox
- Breeze
- Fracture
- Pearl
- Lotus
- Sunset
Looking at VALORANT’s competition, which is primarily the fellow FPS title, CS2, players can select the map they wish to play on. This option is available in competitive and unranked matches. The CS2 community has reacted to this. Specific maps have much more extended wait periods than others in the game.
It does make sense why the map pool of competitive play is similar to that of the competitive league. This is because fans want to play a similar game to those they see play on esports. Currently, the issue is that the map pool changes take place after a long time, which makes the game repetitive, causing a form of fatigue in the community.
Additionally, rumors have been circulating that a new map will also be launched in the game during VCT Masters Shanghai. Seeing the VALORANT ecosystem after the update is live will be interesting.
