VALORANT Player Ban System Major Overhaul
The number of these instances brought to light within the community has drastically increased in the past year. VALORANT recently launched a new video titled Keeping Our Community Healthy. In this video, VALORANT Studio Head Anna Donlon spoke about the various issues in the community that are currently related to player behavior within the game.
It has been widely reported worldwide that players have used abusive terms towards their teammates. Due to this, many players decide to mute their teammates within the game, resulting in situations on the ranked ladder where players play without any form of communication and lose the match.
In a statement concerning the toxic behavior of a specific player, she had this to say:
“We can’t stop them from opening their mouths and saying something awful. I wish we could, but we can’t stop that part. What we can do is escort them out of our game spaces.”
She mentioned specific upcoming changes within the VALORANT player ban that are in line with the statement. The first is that within the next 30 days, or by the end of June, the Riot Games team will finalize updates to existing policies. There will be an extra emphasis on more substantial and faster penalties for severe behavior within the game. These updates could take place following the release of VALORANT Patch 8.11.

The second update is that Riot Games will introduce more actions within the VALORANT player ban system. These will include penalties ranging from temporary to permanent bans. The highest level of ban that would be introduced is the hardware ban for the worst form of offenders. Realizing how harsh hardware bans are, VALORANT has stated they will use them in extreme cases.
The third update is that Riot will hire more staff to help deal with the increased number of player reports. This is done so that VALORANT can have more staff to manually check various player reports to determine their severity.
Riot Games provided an update on the Riot Voice Evaluation System. It is still in beta in North America and is available in English. Anna Donlon stated the following on the Voice Evaluation System:
“Players who Riot Voice Evaluation has actioned upon have not re-offended at a 75% rate. This reduces the overall number of repeat offenders by a great deal.”
VALORANT has stated that they will try to implement this system in other regions soon. It is only available in English, but they will try to add this feature for more regional languages.
Finally, VALORANT concluded that it would conduct a one-time review of the top suspected offenders from the previous act and issue penalties accordingly. That means players who have been reported in Acts 7 and 8 will be reviewed to see if they deserve a higher level of punishment.
