Duelist

Duelist is probably the most luxurious role in the game, and one of the roles that is certainly the most insta-locked in VALORANT. Duelists are playmakers in VALORANT, who need to focus on entry-fragging and space-creating. They are often the glass cannons that will either get info and die, or take over the site through quick moves and gun skills. Duelists rely only on themselves, they need some setup, but most of their kit is designed to be a one versus nine machine.
Here is every duelist you can play right now in VALORANT:
- Jett
- Raze
- Yoru
- Phoenix
- Iso
- Neon
- Reyna
Initiator

Initiators are essentially secondary duelists. Not in the sense their kits are set up for them to carry, but because they have to create the space for their team and then jump into the site to win the round. Whether you’re throwing out a stun, vision dart, or a flash, you are the player your team will rely on to help entry into the site. Being an initiator means you need to learn lineups for your abilities, as you won’t always get near the site you’re trying to take. For example, Breach can stun from a long distance. This stun disables equipment for a short period, so you’ll often stand at a distance while your team is ready to pounce.

Sentinel

Although duelists do a lot of the heavy lifting on offense, and on defense, it’s time for the Sentinels to shine. These agents primarily have defensive kits, designed to be stronger on one half than the other. Most, if not all, Sentinel agents can hold down a site by themselves, allowing the rest of your team to stack the other site. They can also slow down the enemy team from entering, giving your team time to rotate. All Sentinel players rely on their utility, and the best Sentinel players use their utility to get them kills. For example, the better Cypher players will know how to play around their trip wire and cages, even if there are multiple enemies.
Sentinels have the best agents in VALORANT for beginners.

Controller

If you’re a League of Legends support player looking to play a similar role in VALORANT, Controller is probably the closest thing to it. Controllers do the grunt work in VALORANT, they often are positioned in the unfavorable spots of the map, while also having to use their utility to provide cover and make space for the team. Smokes are often open in VALORANT unless you’re an Omen one trick, who has aggressive capabilities in his kit. As a controller, you dictate how the map is going to be played that round. Viper’s wall, for example, is a great weapon to use on both offense and defense.
Here are the current Controller agents in VALORANT:
- Astra
- Brimstone
- Clove
- Harbor
- Omen
- Viper
