WoW Classic & WoW Classic WotLK Server Population
World of Warcraft Classic is the ultimate nostalgia trip for any veteran WoW player. It offers a unique experience that you otherwise can’t get anywhere else today. That is why World of Warcraft Classic has been steadily growing and enjoying a healthy WoW server population since its release in 2019.
Today, the Classic version of the game is split between Wrath of the Lich King servers and Classic Era servers. Both games have numerous servers to choose from, but picking the right one can be a bit tricky if you’re not familiar with the WoW Classic servers.

WoW Classic Server Population
Which server you choose in WoW Classic can have a big impact on the way that you play the rest of the game. The WoW Classic servers can be a little temperamental at times. So it pays off to check out the population before you start playing. Even beyond the overall population, some servers have a lot more players distributed evenly between factions than others. A bad server can really impact your enjoyment – which is why it’s worth double-checking the WoW realm status before you jump in.
The faction balance on certain servers skews heavily towards the Horde across the board, but in other cases towards Alliance. Only a few realms have the correct faction balance as the majority of WoW Classic players flock towards the popular one faction-dominated mega servers. This was the case in Season of Mastery as well.
You should always pay attention to faction balance in WoW Classic, and not just pure server population if you want to make sure you’re getting the best access. Heavily skewed server balances might cause long queue times and make a generally unfavorable playing experience.
WoW Classic Era Server Population – Wrath of the Lich King
Wrath of the Lich King Classic is immensely popular, which is reflected in the official WoW server population numbers. This is the era of WoW many still fondly remember, and a time when World of Warcraft was at its peak.
We’re now well into the expansion, so as we grow closer to the release of Icecrown Citadel and the infamous Lich King, we expect these WoW Classic server population numbers to rise even higher.

You’ll notice that some, like the Grobbulus server population are going to be more competitive than a lot of others. As long as you check the Horde/Alliance balance before joining, you can’t go far wrong with a server like this. On the other hand, for a less intense WoW experience, you may have to check out the Sulfuras server population. For new players who need some time to get used to the server, a small population can be better.
Which WoW Server Should You Play On?
You need to take your local time zone into account when choosing which WoW server to play on. It’s all well and good checking the Angerforge server population but you’ll need to make sure you’re playing in the right region to maximize interactions with other players.
If you’re the kind of gamer who plays in the middle of the night, however, you may want to consider other regions.
WoW Classic Era Servers
WoW Classic Era servers are the original servers from the 2019 launch. These are the very same servers where you could migrate your original characters before TBC went live.
For the longest time, these servers had been abandoned and there were no signs of life. However, something changed around the time Ulduar dropped in WotLK Classic and players started returning. Today, the exact WoW server population stats for all the Classic Era servers are unclear, but the numbers are estimated to be in the thousands and increasing by the day.

@ Blizzard
If you’ve been following WoW Classic for a while, you might have noticed that players tend to move towards mega servers such as Gehennas on EU or Benediction on US in WotLK Classic. The same trend is currently happening in WoW Classic Era and there are a few mega servers currently forming:
NA Classic Era Servers
- Whitemane (PvP) – 5100
- Mankrik (PvE) – 13400
EU Classic Era Servers
- Firemaw (PvP) – 11600
- Pyrewood Village (PvE) – 10200
WoW Classic Fresh Servers
If you’re itching to play WoW Classic but just don’t feel like rolling a new character on an existing server, then waiting until Blizzard releases Season of Mastery 2 might be a good idea.
For those of you who might be unaware, Season of Mastery are fresh, seasonal servers that last for an entire year and then get wiped clean at the end. These servers usually have slightly higher experience rates, minor balance tweaks and class tunings, and are just generally tons of fun. They also come with the added bonus of not having to check the Old Blanchy server population every time you log in.
We’re expecting Blizzard to release the new Classic fresh servers later this year. On top of your usual Season of Mastery shenanigans, we believe they’ll also add official Hardcore Classic servers as well. We have no concrete date yet, so it’s impossible to know the WoW server population there.
If this is something that interests you, then keep your eyes peeled for any Blizzard announcements soon.
