The PGC 2024 will happen from Dec. 9 to 22 across a Circuit System and the Grand Finals. If you are confused about what this is, here’s the guide for you:

Circuit System

The Circuit System will feature three circuits, whose schedules are as follows:

The top 4 teams will start each circuit on Day 3. The teams in 5th to 8th place will start on Day 2 while the remaining will start on Day 1. At the end of Days 1 and 2, four teams each will be eliminated.

Day 3 is crucial as the overall standings across all three circuits will decide the 16 teams who will advance to the Grand Finals. Each matchday will have six matches.

Rank Decision

The PGC 2021 features an elaborate tournament format, distributed into six stages. The PUBG Global Championship 2021 kicks off with the Rank Decision stage, which serves to determine which sixteen of the thirty-two teams will share in the first Weekly Survival stage. The teams are drawn out in 4 groups and play a single round robin between all groups.

Weekly Survival

The Weekly Survival stage is as its name suggests, the stakes do matter for the participants. Here the “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner” or WWCD format sets a more serious tone for teams. Teams must win one match from the sixteen matches played across three days to proceed to the Weekly Finals. When a team becomes a winner, he will be exempted from Weekly Survival for other candidates to compete for the remaining slots.

Week 1

The sixteen teams that will start the first weekly survival have been selected. Sixteen matches will be played starting on the 23rd of November to determine the first batch of teams heading into the first weekly finals. Once the first team claims a chicken dinner, they are automatically promoted to the Weekly Finals, while the #17th team in the rankings joins the next match lobby. The process is repeat until 16 teams have won a Chiken Dinner and the list for weekly finals is complete. Sadly Dignitas was the team with the lowest rank in the Rank Decision matches, and they will miss out on the first Weekly Final.

Bottom 16 (for losers only)

It’s not the end of the road for the bottom sixteen performers as they are delegated to the Bottom 16 Stage, where Points Rule is once again applied. Teams play this stage, accumulating points to be seeded in seventeenth to thirty-first places for the next Weekly Survival.

Weekly Finals

Teams that made it into Weekly Finals shall play ten matches in a similar Points Rule fashion. However, there is an exception, where the winner of each Weekly Finals advances to the Grand Finals (three teams total).

The top nine teams with the highest total points earned across three weeks of Weekly Finals also advance to the Grand Final.

Grand Survival (for Weekly Finals losers only)

Whereas the remaining teams will participate in Grand Survival, where teams who win one of the four Grand Survival matches shall fill the rest of the Grand Final spots.

Grand Final

Finally, the sixteen qualified teams will compete in a fifteen-match tournament over three days. The Grand Final standings based on Point Rule will determine the Grand Champion of PGC 2021. The Point Rule format promotes consistency and puts participants outside their comfort zone.

Effectively deterring one-trick ponies from pulling off any flukes at the grand PUBG Global Championship 2021.

PGC 2021 Favorites

There are several teams considered favorites even amongst the strongest teams at PGC 2021.

First up, Virtus.pro, the iconic Russian bears are the most celebrated team in Europe. Garnering fame and glory as of the PUBG Continental Series 5: Europe champions recently, VP’s achievements date further back to ESL PUBG Masters 2021 Europe Summer and PUBG Continental Series 4: Europe (PCS). Let’s not forget FaZe Clan, who was the reigning champion in Europe till the year 2020. While they have fallen off slightly recently, FaZe Clan fans are eagerly waiting for their resurgence.

Hailing from America is a bigger fish than any other regional favorite, Susquehanna Soniqs. Their biggest achievement was the recent PUBG Global Invitational.S 2021 title, earning them the spot among favorites. Additionally, Oath Gaming, another NA rival, are the proclaimed rookies of the year after finding success throughout the PUBG Continental Series: Americas tournaments. Both teams bring two different styles of play, and seeking to provide Americas is the still the best region in competitive PUBG.

The rest of the league aren’t shabby teams either. After all, we have the 32 best teams in the world in attendance. It’s wise to keep an eye on any potentially strong candidate after the Weekly Survival stage concludes.
