Everything You Need to Know About MW3 Zombies
Modern Warfare 3 is an ambitious undertaking for what’s being branded an over-glorified DLC for 2022’s Modern Warfare 2. It boasts a unique campaign, a packed multiplayer offering, and an all-new Zombies mode that’s set in the biggest map ever – an environment that’ll also lend itself to Warzone further down the line. Fortunately, the overall size and scope of MW3 Zombies doesn’t have to be daunting, as Activision has published a monumental breakdown of everything to know about the new mode.
There’s a huge amount to take on board before you load into a round of MW3 Zombies, though. From brand-new mechanics to fresh ways to play and from hot completionist camos to mods and ‘Perk-a-Colas’, this really is a comprehensive Zombies experience. For a while, fans were worried that it’d be a bit loose around the edges and roughly completed, but make no mistake – MW3 Zombies is here to impress players the world over.
Learn Everything About MW3 Zombies
First off, it’s worth stressing that its official name is ‘Operation Deadbolt’, and it’s an open-world, squad-based, player-vs-environment epic based around an extraction shooter model, like DMZ. In MW3 Zombies, players are tasked with loading up, landing in Urzikstan, completing tasks and eradicating the undead nightmares, and then successfully extracting from the map again. It’s like nothing we’ve seen before in the COD Zombies world.
It’s like DMZ in that players can put together loadouts that are a mix of contraband and player-owned weapons. That also includes picking Operators and using items that are carried from game to game, including perks, power-ups, field upgrades, bags, and other equipment.
On that note, there are unique field upgrades for MW3 Zombies that are unlocked as you level up:
- Energy Mine
- Frenzied Guard
- Healing Aura
- Frost Blast
- Aether Shroud
- Tesla Storm
Two brand-new elements are ‘Acquisitions’ and ‘Schematics’ that players can pick up as they raid through COD Zombies. These will enable players to craft special items that will upgrade Pack-a-Punched weapons and make them more powerful – Aetherium and Aether Tools.

This Feels Familiar
COD Zombies on MW3 sees the return of a series of ‘Perk-a-Colas’ that were first introduced in 2010’s Call of Duty: Black Ops. This game features a unique mode that’s often considered the best COD Zombies game ever. Here’s the full list of Perk-a-Colas in MW3 Zombies:
- Deadshot Daquiri
- Death Perception
- Elemental Pop
- Jugger-Nog
- PHD Flopper
- Quick Revive
- Speed Cola
- Stamin-Up
- Tombstone Soda
There’s also a range of ammo mods, which have also been seen before in COD Zombies. These will give you a series of elemental upgrades as you slay the undead in Urzikstan.
Ultimately, with all these features applied, the core goal is to complete tasks, missions, ‘Tiers’, and ‘Acts’ as you explore Urzikstan in the Zombie apocalypse. It’s a completely open world, and you’re free to go where you want, whenever you want to go there. It’s a world split up into regions that are differentiated by their intensity and threat levels, so if you’re feeling brave, head for High Threat Zones.
It’s a case of getting in, doing whatever you can while you’re there, then leaving successfully, and trying to not get bitten.
Best of luck.
