EVO Japan Returns in 2023 – Line-Up, Dates and Event Info
The yearly EVO tournament has just its 2022 tournament concluded, with climatic matches and new announcements for plenty of fighting games. The tournament even featured record prize pools for new games, like with the EVO MultiVersus event. The fighting game tournament is going to be expanding again soon, with EVO Japan making a return after a few years of absence.
It’ll be a new event with a separate roster of games and players. This is how EVO Japan is going to work and what you can expect from it.
EVO Japan 2023
The new tournament is going to be bringing back EVO Japan. This event was first held in 2018. Although, this isn’t a replacement for EVO. Instead it’s a separate event from the normal EVO that gets held in Japan with a different range of games. In the past, it’s hosted some of the big games from EVO like Street Fighter V, Guilty Gear, Tekken, and King of Fighters. Although, it goes with games that are more popular in Japan for esports. In the past, it has had to skip some titles like Melee and Injustice that aren’t too popular there. However, it still features most of the big games.
There have been quite a few EVO Japan events overall. They’ve featured different games in different years. There have even been some online tournaments for EVO Japan. This new version is going to be returning to in-person events.
EVO 2022 has just concluded and the next event has already been unveiled. It’s is going to be held in 2023, it’ll take place at the Tokyo Big Sight. The competition will be running over a weekend, going from March 31st to April 2nd.
The new tournament is going to be a continuation of past EVO Japan events. Although, EVO’s had some changes since, including a new owner. There are going to be some clear differences between the old event and the 2023 version, including the games that are going to be on show.
The Line-Up
The tournament in 2023 is going to feature similar EVO line-up of games close to what was just held. The titles on offer here are going to include all of the major titles from the last EVO. All titles from the Sunday Championship are going to be represented again in 2023. These are some of the titles that will be at EVO Japan 2023:
- Guilty Gear Strive
- Street Fighter V Champion Edition
- King of Fighters XV
- Tekken 7
These are going to be the main events at the tournament. However, we’ll see as we get closer to the time if even more, fighting game titles will be joining the line-up. Since this is a multiple-day event, we can probably expect more than this limited run. Some of the games receiving new content after announcements at EVO might be making new appearances here too.
In terms of who is going to be competing, we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out. Some players might be making the journey out for EVO Japan, but we can expect plenty of Asia talent too. It’s only a short wait till the next round of EVO.
