New MK 1 Quality of Life Upgrades Coming to Fix Game’s Online Experience

Mortal Kombat 1 is a huge step forward for the franchise. It’s one of the best fighting games out there at the moment, but 2023 has been a competitive year for the genre. Compared to titles like SF 6 and even some older ones like Tekken 7 though, MK 1 quality of life features have been found a bit lacking especially when it comes to online play. Thankfully that might be changing soon. Series director Ed Boon has recently taken to Twitter to announce a raft of new features in the works for Mortal Kombat 1. Between Wi-Fi filters and crossplay, it looks like the online experience for this fighter is about to get a lot better.

While MK 1 has a lot to like on release, there are some modern features which are notably lacking. The game doesn’t support crossplay, arguably a positive given the terrible state of some MK 1 ports. However, a lack of a Wi-Fi filter has also irritated players. Players are unable to decline fights, no matter the connection state. How will the new MK 1 quality of life features change this?

New Mortal Kombat 1 Quality of Life Features Announced

This week, Ed Boon has announced a few major features which are currently in the works for Mortal Kombat 1. The first is crossplay. It’s a feature that a lot of players enjoy, allowing you to play with friends across different platforms. It’s currently missing from MK 1. This new development should at least see Xbox and PlayStation players able to join up together, although other platforms being included isn’t clear yet.

The next is a Wi-Fi filter. Those playing with a superior ethernet connection might not want to have to endure the instability of a wi-fi warrior. However, with the MK 1 Quality of life upgrades a filter will be added. That way, the serious players using a more stable connection can ensure they’re getting proper matchups.

These additions getting talked about came after Ed Boon attended a recent wrestling event. MK fans were amused to see a fan had brought a sign begging for a WI-FI filter. However, Ed Boon then responded directly by promising one was coming. That’s along with the other MK 1 Quality of life upgrades. We’ll have to watch out for the Mortal Kombat 1 patch notes over the coming months to see when the features are fully integrated.
