Is Mortal Kombat 1 Crossplay?

MK has launched on all major platforms. It’s great on PC plus it’s one of the best PS5 fighting games. Although, at launch, it was without crossplay. The developers gave an update about Mortal Kombat crossplay, or Kross-play as it has playfully been termed. They’ve specified that the game wasn’t going to get it at launch. Players will be locked onto their own platforms for the early days of the game. However, that’s now changing.

What exactly is crossplay though? What’s coming to MK 1? It’s a feature where you can play with friends on any platform. Since Mortal Kombat 1 is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC, the player base is spread out. Crossplay would allow you to fight someone on any of these platforms even if you don’t share the same system.

There are some reasons MK 1 crossplay is a bit more complicated. Other fighters with crossplay have fewer major differences between platforms. How the PS5 and Switch versions of the games are going to play together is tricky. Especially now we’ve seen the mess that the Switch version of the game was.

Despite the longer wait than most games have, Mortal Kombat 1 crossplay is about to come to the game. We’ve got an official update on the timeline of crossplay.

Mortal Kombat 1 crossplay isn’t here at the moment, but it’s gotten a full timetable revealed! Developers behind the game have been talking about a few MK quality-of-life updates planned. The first major update is crossplay. This will be enabled in-game with a coming update. The patch for late February and early March will enable crossplay for the game!

There are some limitations to the new feature though. It’s coming for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Switch won’t be included. That’s a shame but it’s understandable given the big difference in performance.

Hopefully, the Mortal Kombat 1 crossplay update is just the first of many quality-of-life improvements!  It’s worth keeping an eye on fighting game news to see what else is in store as upgrades for Mortal Kombat 1.
