LoL Patch 13.21 – What changes are coming?

Patch 13.20 is officially out and it came with a lot of important changes. Not only did we get a major K’Sante rework and Jax’s visual update, but we also received radical adjustments to the jungle, rune system, and dragons.

For junglers, this patch will be some sort of pre-season. We’re not expecting to be completely different, but it should nerf junglers’ agency over the laners, reducing their impact in the early game, especially in solo queue.

Moreover, there is also support and starting item changes, as well as some buffs and nerfs. Overall, it’s quite a big patch and it should take a while for players to get used to the new update. While we’re monitoring how the meta will shape up in the upcoming days, let’s also set our eyes on the upcoming Patch 13.21.

On October 16, game designer Riot Phroxzon published the preview for Patch 13.21. In his post, he mentioned the players seem to appreciate the slower-paced games and the reduction of snowballing in the early game. According to him, game time has gone up about a minute and back to how it was in Seasons 7-8, with snowballing at its lowest in around 5 years.

Additionally, they are also happy with the overall jungle changes, even though the champion balance is off within the role. “Some tanks are too strong and a lot of AD champions are too weak,” he said. With that in mind, they are looking to buff up some of the weaker champions, such Kha’Zix, Bel’Veth, Hecarim, and Master Yi.  There are also a few ADC champion changes, with buffs to Varus and nerfs to Jinx and Caitlyn.

Riot is also planning to adjust a few champions, runes, and items. Among them, First Strike is one of the major changes, alongside Phase Rush. But before judging, let’s see what numbers they are going to change.

You can find the list of tentative changes in the section below. Additionally, the Cafe Cuties skin line is back and four new champions will be receiving the skin: Jinx, Lulu, Poppy, and Rumble.

Patch 13.21 Release Date

According to the official patch schedule, Patch 13.21 will be released on Wednesday, October 25. After that, there will be three more patches before the end of season 13.

How will the upcoming patch impact the meta?

Now that we have the numbers on our hands, we can talk a bit more about how the meta will potentially change. The most notable changes are Caitlyn’s nerf and Seraphine’s changes. The former will potentially kill her lethality build (unless specific scenarios) while Seraphine will now only be played in the support role.

The jungle changes on Morgana, Brand, and Zyra are exciting, as the jungle meta has been lacking with AP damage champions. That said, the lower snowball potential coming from Patch 13.20 on jungle will only make them for-fun picks.

Aside from these changes, the other buffs and nerfs seem to be quite on point. Hecarim and Bel’Veth needed a few improvements and Rammus was quite annoying to deal with in Patch 13.20.

Hullbreaker will likely impact late game’s split-pushing ability, but it won’t really make much of a difference. The resistance loss only happens super late into the game, and at that point, it won’t really matter as much.

For the runes, I was expecting something more impactful on nerfs from First Strike. We’ll see whether the 1% damage decrease will really impact some champions. Phase Rush’s melee MS speed bonus nerf is healthy so it’s fine.
