Where are some of the 2019 teams?
Most infamously, Evil Geniuses had purchased Echo Fox’s NA LCS slot. This followed earlier internal drama within Echo Fox being leaked to the public, with Riot later taking action, forcing Echo Fox out of the league. After a tough round of negotiations, and even an extension to seal the deal, Echo Fox finally sold their slot to Evil Geniuses. Many may find Evil Geniuses a familiar name, and not without reason considering they were one of the top veteran professional League of Legends teams, having both a hand in EU and NA.
Immortals had acquired OpTic Gaming’s parent company, leading to a rebrand. While initially many of the players were part of Immortals following the team’s acquisition, many had soon been transferred off the team.
Clutch Gaming has merged with Dignitas early in the year, leading to the team’s rebrand. This came as a surprise considering Clutch Gaming’s relatively new established strength in the league and has change the structure of the LCS Power Rankings. Dignitas on the other hand had failed to acquire a NA LCS spot in the league despite being one of the longer standing, well known, and highly supported teams. This merger will hopefully propel the OG Dignitas name to heights it failed to achieve those many years ago.
