PGL to host Dota 2 Major in Texas – Arlington back in the spotlight

More esports news has been revealed this week after PGL made the announcement that they will host the final Dota 2 Major event this 2021-2022 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC). And this time, the event will be held on August 4-14 in Arlington, Texas, specifically in the Esports Stadium Arlington. The venue is arguably considered the biggest esports facility in the US.

A total of 18 Dota teams from all over the world will compete in LAN. A prize pool of $500,000 will be distributed at the end of the tournament, as well as DPC points which will be needed by the teams to qualify in this year’s edition of the most prestigious Dota 2 event out there, The International.

With this Major event being an offline event, fans will be allowed to attend. What a treat!

PGL to host Dota 2 Major Event in Texas

PGL CEO Silviu Stroie spoke about their organization’s role as the host of the event. His statement reads as:

“DOTA 2 has a lot of fans in the US, and Arlington has a perfect location for tournaments of this caliber: Esports Stadium. We are fortunate to be back in North America with another Major after Boston. We love to run events in the USA, and we have wonderful memories from 2016: it was a great tournament, and the fans were fantastic. Having a tremendous tournament with DOTA 2 enthusiasts in the stands after a long time will be great!”

North American fans last saw a Major event way back in 2016. It was the Boston Major where TI8 and TI9 champions OG won the tournament.

Arlington in the spotlight yet again

Ever since Envy took management of Esports Stadium Arlington, we’ve seen a steady rise of prominence of esports fandom in the state. With the first CDL Major held there weeks ago and several upcoming live tournaments heading to Arlington, the organizers will have a venue that is well versed in hosting live events and audiences after the pandemic hiatus.

This was likely the best venue choice PGL could make, on both an infrastructure and regulation level. We may finally witness the first fully open Dota 2 event in over two years. I just hope all the teams and regions will be able to attend without restrictions and sanctions blocking the best of the best from competing.

We will update this story once more information about the event, including the qualified teams, once announced. So, make sure to follow us for more esports news and updates as it happens.
