How to check MMR in VALORANT

MMR which stands for Matchmaking Rating is often overlooked by VALORANT players. For starters, it’s one of the crucial aspects of the game’s ranked mode, which basically determines your skill level and the percentage rate by which your typical RR points increase and decrease. But that’s not even all, which is why we’ve put together a detailed rundown of what MMR is and how to see it in VALORANT.

What is MMR in VALORANT?

MMR is basically an invisible value that denotes your skill level in VALORANT. Before diving deep into the details, it’s crucial to note that it is different from Ranking Rating points based on which you gain a certain rank in the game. Unlike your visible rank, which ranges from Iron to Radiant, MMR is not displayed to players. However, it is the backbone of the ranking system, which means it significantly matters when it comes to who you are matched against and how much your rank changes after each game.

As noted earlier, your Rank is separate from your MMR. You will never see your MMR in VALORANT —it’s what devs use to create fair matches. When you queue into ranked for the first time, or after an Episode reset, the game’s system has an idea of where your “Rank” belongs because the system relies on your MMR as a guideline.

Now let’s take a real-life example for a better understanding. Let’s suppose you haven’t played VALORANT for a while, which means Riot Games will snatch your current rank and place you in an unranked lobby. In this situation, your visible rank will be extremely impacted if you get back to the game after a few months but your hidden MMR, which is your skill level, almost remains the same. As a result, you’ll regain your expired rank once you start playing a few matches and that’s only possible because of the MMR’s existence.

How to see MMR in VALORANT?

Simply put, there’s no official way to see your MMR in VALORANT. As mentioned earlier, it’s an invisible value, which means a normal user can’t access it, and it’s automatically calculated based on your performance. However, the only way to estimate your MMR is by observing your Rank Rating (RR) gains and losses. Here’s how it works:

  • If your MMR is higher than your rank, you’ll gain more RR on wins than you lose on losses
  • If your MMR is even with your rank, you’ll gain and lose closer amounts of RR for wins and losses
  • If your MMR is lower than your rank, you’ll gain less RR on wins and lose more on losses

In the official blog, Riot Games confirmed that “Eventually your Rank will converge very close to your MMR”. When this happens, you will get a relatively even amount of RR per win/loss. So, we highly recommend focusing on improving your aiming skills rather than running behind the concept of MMR, if you actually want to climb the VALORANT ranked ladder.
