Apex legends is one of the biggest Battle Royale games and like its competition it offers a Battle Pass. A way to get cosmetics each season by playing the game, provided you buy the premium tier of the Pass. However, its Pass is about to be very different. A big change is coming with a new Apex Legends Battle Pass system. The price is set to skyrocket for most players too.

It’s a huge increase compared to the old pricing, and one that fans aren’t too happy about. It’s been one of the most controversial bits of Apex Legends news recently, rightfully so. Fans are being gouged. Respawn have included some changes to how the Pass works. Is the change big enough to justify this huge price hike?

New Apex Legends Battle Pass System Changes

For Season 22, there’s huge changes to the Apex Legends Battle pass. The first one, is that there’s twice the amount now. If you want to unlock everything, you need to buy double the amount of passes. Essentially doubling the price. That’s not all though.

What’s more, you can’t buy them with the last Pass’s proceeds anymore. Just like Fortnite Battle Passes, you the old Apex pass gave out enough currency to buy the next one. Essentially meaning if you avoid impulse buys, you could buy one pass and keep re-rolling them forever.

With these new Apex Legends Battle Pass system changes, it’s different. The passes will still give out currency. However, you can no longer buy them for that currency. Battle Passes are now going to be a real money only item. Closer to the original OW 2 Battle Passes, but arguably worse with double Passes.

It means everyone is expecting to start buying them each season with cash. Bad news if you had a stockpile of in-game currency too. If you’d been using the free currency from a pass to buy the next, this is an infinite increase in price. A particularly greedy change to the game’s monetization.

We might be seeing a lot more players move to be free players with this change. The Battle Pass has had is rewards improved with much less filler. However, for many the spike in price will be a step too far.

Changes to cosmetics don’t effect anything like tournaments or gameplay, but for many this signals a change from the game’s plans. It’s a shame that this move has come now, seemingly accelerating players abandoning the title. When looking at is Apex dying, this might prove to be a turning point for its current fanbase.
