DraftKings as a whole is pretty simple. It is an American-based daily fantasy sports and sports betting company. They can operate in almost every state across the US. While they primarily cater to sports fans, they have also dipped into the realm of esports.

They have taken over esports betting in games like League of Legends, Call of Duty, Rocket League, CS:GO, Dota 2, Valorant and so much more. DraftKings has to be the place to go for anyone interested in finding the best fantasy betting websites.

While DraftKings may be fun, that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily legal. At least not in every state. There are still six states where it is still illegal to play. But the real question is, is DraftKings legal in NY? It’s more than just a simple yes or no answer. It all depends on what kind of betting you’re looking to do.

Is DraftKings DFS Legal in New York?

DraftKings daily fantasy sports is legal in New York. Back in 2016, the state of New York started to register DFS as a game of skill. However, a recent court ruling almost threatened that status. As of right now, DFS sites like FanDuel and DraftKings have permits to operate in the state.

The map for DFS illustrates the states where DraftKings is legal. DraftKings DFS is almost legal in every single state. With New York challenging the legal status of DFS betting so much, there may not be much change coming for those for at least a couple of years. Time will only tell.

Is DraftKings Sportsbook Legal in New York?

New York has been fairly hesitant when it comes to gambling in general. Commercial casinos didn’t make their way to the state until 2013. New York sports betting has been a hot topic in the state all year. While sports betting is legal, the state has neglected to bring mobile sports betting to the state.

That is, until now. As of July 6th, mobile sports betting is legal in the state of New York. That means DraftKings Sportsbook will be legal as well. There is a slight problem with that. While it may be legal, it is not quite live yet. Gov. Cuomo stated that it might not be live until late 2021 or even 2022.

With more states making it legal, hopefully,  the DraftKings in New York Sportsbook can make it all over. With New York on board, more may follow suit.
