CDL 2023: Ruleset Revealed, Map Pool Published, Weapons Confirmed

With the Call of Duty League 2023 season kicking off in less than a month, the first version of the ruleset and map pool has been published. This confirms the maps, modes, and the most fundamental guidelines players will need to adhere to when the tournament gets started at the beginning of December. It’s also the ruleset that Call of Duty Challengers will follow, as well as any ranked play modes set in place on the Modern Warfare 2 platform.

At present, Activision has warned that the ruleset isn’t final and that the guidelines can change at any given point. Since the very first iteration of the ruleset was published, a substantial change has already been made to the map pool, likely based on feedback from the competitive community. At the core of this ruleset sits the restricted items list, which gives fans a clear picture of the loadouts that the professional players will be running this season.

As the best Call of Duty players in the world suit up and prepare for the opening of the CDL 2023 season, many fans have begun poring over the newly-published ruleset. For the most part, the rules will remain the same as in previous years, with the three selected game modes being unchanged: Search and Destroy, Hardpoint, and Control. These bread-and-butter modes are the same as they’ve ever been, meaning fans returning for the 2023 season will feel right at home.

Here’s the breakdown of the current map pool for the CDL 2023 season:

Search and Destroy

  • Al Bagra Fortress, Breenburgh Hotel, El Asilo, Embassy, Mercado Las Almas

  • Al Bagra Fortress, Breenburgh Hotel, Embassy, Mercado Las Almas, Zarqwa Hydroelectric

  • Al Bagra Fortress, Breenburgh Hotel, El Asilo

Most of the restricted weapons have been locked in now, but we expect more will be added to the list as the competition kick-off approaches. For example, all Battle Rifles, Shotguns, Light Machine Guns, Launchers, and most Marksman Rifles have been restricted for the CDL. In total, thirteen perks have been restricted, and almost all field upgrades (trophy system has made it in, of course) and killstreaks have been locked down.

So far, the confirmed killstreaks permitted are:

  • Precision Airstrike, Cruise Missile, SAE.

The Action Begins Soon

This year, the action kicks off on the 2nd of December, with the first LAN tournament taking place between the 15th and the 18th of December. It’s a record-low break between seasons, with the schedule being brought forward by more than two months to avoid a massive gap between Modern Warfare 2 launching and the competitive season beginning. In the meantime, before the new season drops, players will be granted access to Warzone 2 and DMZ – it’s an intensely busy few weeks for Call of Duty fans.

For those interested in Call of Duty League betting, there’s a dense season ahead. Over the course of the next few months, fans will be treated to five Majors, mid-season special events, and of course, the Championship Weekend to cap it all off next summer.

It’s an exciting time to be a Call of Duty fan!
