DreamLeague Season 14 standings to be decided in final five matches
After five weeks of Dota Pro Circuit 2021 (DPC 2021) games, Team Secret remains unscathed at the Europe Upper Division. With an outstanding win streak, Team Secret has already secured tickets to the Singapore Major 2021. The other seven participants are still hoping to either earn a Major spot or simply remain in the competition next season.
Lets take a look at the final five matches at DreamLeague Season 14 and their impact on the standings.
Team Secret once again undisputed
It’s no better time to be on the Team Secret bandwagon after their absolute dominance in the Dota Pro Circuit 2021. Europe has often been proclaimed as the toughest Dota 2 region, and to be as dominant as Secret has been this season is an achievement in itself. As of week 5 at Dota Pro Circuit 2021, Team Secret has defeated every team, except team OG, whom they will clash shortly.
One of the most intense games so far for Secret was against Team Liquid. Re-watching the VOD shows how much momentum TL really had rolling with their Lycan draft in the first game. While most teams crumble to Team Liquid’s pressure, Team Secret managed to turn the tides around and showcase why they are the best team in Europe.
Their other matches were a stomp through and through with High Coast Esports receiving the shortest end of the stick.
The OG Fiasco
It probably isn’t an exaggeration to say team OG is Team Secret’s rival. As much as fans love to believe so, OG just doesn’t have the consistency that Team Secret boasts. Despite being one of the top seeds, OG unexpectedly lost to Vikin.gg.
Fans were baffled by the shocking defeat after Topias Miikka “Topson” Taavitsainen, was utterly devastated by his opponents. Despite playing his signature hero, it didn’t phase Vikin.gg one bit, as they prepared a barrage of stuns just to hold him down.
Needless to say, even Johan “N0tail” Sundstein, the team OG captain was upset of the loss.
Earlier in the DPC 2021, OG also lost to Alliance, the Swedish team led by International Champion Gustav “s4” Magnusson. Alliance, for one, looked underwhelming, heading into the DPC 2021. However, they managed to pull through the qualifiers and are currently top seeds behind Team Secret.
Alliance is back!
Speaking of Alliance, their unimaginable success at the DPC 2021 had fans and viewers going boggles! From their humble debut at the qualifiers to taking down their competition, Alliance has definitely had their opponents on their feet for underestimating them. With a respectable 4/2 win-loss, Alliance might have cemented their spot in the Singapore Major 2021.
However, the fight isn’t over just yet as Alliance should opt to maintain the second-place for the Major Group Stage slot. While the top four finishes also stand a chance at the Singapore Major 2021, it’s merely a Wild Card slot.
Being a loyal fan of Alliance since their victory at the International 2013, it certainly felt satisfying to cheer, “Alliance is back!”
Four crucial matches to wrap up DreamLeague Season 14
Coming into the final week, Team Liquid holds all the cards as they fight to secure a spot at the Major. They can also play spoiler for both of their opponents (OG, Alliance), as placements are not yet fully determined.
Tundra Esports and Vikin.gg are in a direct fight to determine who departs the Upper Divison and who remains.
High Coast Esports are hoping to play spoiler for Team Nigma on their bid for the Major as well. Finally, OG and Secret will close out the competition with a potential Group Stage slot on the line for Team OG.
Five matches and each one can impact the standings or the future of teams in the DPC. It wouldn’t be long before we know the four worthy competitors representing Europe for the Singapore Major 2021. With hefty stakes on the line, it’s going to be a brawl among the top DPC 2021 teams to dish out their last efforts.
