Mirana Dota 2 Guide – Make the Enemy Fear Your Arrow in Patch 7.14

Mirana, or PotM as she’s also known as, is a very strong and flexible hero. She can be played as a mid hero, off laner or a roamer.

PotM is quite squishy in the early and mid game, although she has one of the highest agility gains in the game which makes her a strong late game carry. She provides great utility to her team through Moonlight Shadow and a long disable through Sacred Arrow. Her skill build remains relatively the same in whatever role she plays in.

Detailed Spell guide for Mirana

Starstorm

Mirana calls down damaging stars upon all nearby enemies. A second star will fall on the closest enemy within a shorter range dealing 75% damage. Aghanim’s Scepter triggers this spell without mana cost or cooldown every 10 seconds. There is a cast delay on the falling stars before they hit the target, and they do not hit invisible, hidden or units in the fog of war, although the secondary star will. When you’re laning, make sure that the enemy hero is closer than any other creep so that the second star will hit them. Starstorm should always be maxed first because it’s a more reliable nuke in the early game than Sacred Arrow is and can be used to farm neutral camps and creep-waves.

Sacred Arrow

Mirana throws an arrow in the target direction that gains damage and stun duration the farther it travels. If the Arrow ends up hitting a creep, it will instantly kill it. This should be maxed lastly because the scaling of the stun duration stays the same at all levels. In addition to this, the damage isn’t very helpful in getting kills or farming in the early and mid game other than that it can be used to farm the big creep in a camp. It should be gotten at level 1 if you don’t need the Leap ability to survive an early gank. This will give you a bit more kill potential against enemies that try to contest runes in the beginning of the game.

Tips and Tricks:

The arrow provides a small amount of vision which can be used to scout enemies in tree lines and Roshan. When ganking any lane, try to look for an angle where the enemy won’t be able to see the arrow. For example, try to have the arrow travel the length of a tree-line to build up some distance or hit them from an angle where they are unlikely to have their screen centered. The Arrow will stun for a very short duration and deal very little damage at close range, and if you just need to deal more damage it can often be better to just keep attacking. Learning to execute this spell correctly will quickly turn you into a carry monster and you’ll be on your way to 10k mmr.

Leap

Mirana leaps forward, granting her increased movement and attack speed for 2.5 seconds. Leap has 3 charges and disjoints incoming projectiles. You can get it at level 1 if you need to it survive early ganks. Leap is usually maxed secondly after getting 2 points in it. This is because the movement and attack speed values are twice as good at level 2 than they are level 1, while only being 50% after that, and 33% from level 3 into 4. Having 3 charges of Leap makes you very hard to gank, but be very careful if you have 1 or none. You should use Leap as a gap closer after landing an arrow to make good use out of the bonus attack speed to help you finish off the target.

Moonlight Shadow

Mirana turns herself and every allied hero invisible after a short fade delay and while invisible, her allies gain increased movement speed. Attacking, using an item or casting a spell reveals the hero and resets the fade delay. Moonlight Shadow can be used to get your allies out of ganks, turn ganks around or allow your team to dive enemies without getting killed. In the mid and late game, it can also be used as a replacement for Smoke of Deceit, where your team can gather to look for a gank as 5. This spell is often taken at level 8 instead of 6 because you’re less likely to need the spell than you are to need another level of Starstorm or Leap. It can be good to get it at level 6 in games where the enemy team have a very active early game lineup, however.

Talents

Level 10: +200 Health or +20 Damage

If you’re facing heroes that can disable you with stuns or silences or heroes that can burst you down quickly, then the extra HP will probably be a better choice. If Leap is enough to ensure your survival in fights, then you can get the damage instead. The extra damage is great on PotM because it helps her to deal more damage in fights and farm a lot faster.

Level 15: +100 Leap Attack Speed or -5s Sacred Arrow cooldown

The reduced cooldown can be good if you need more disables on your team, or if fights tend to be quite long. However, in most cases, the increased attack speed is a better option on Mirana, as this doubles the attack speed bonus from the spell. This also scales better into the late game as the increased attack speed will grant you more damage as you get more items.

Level 20: +25 Mana Break or +12% Spell Amplification

If you got an Aghanim’s Scepter and if you’re facing a strong illusion hero like Phantom Lancer, then the spell amp can be good as it will be quite good for your Starstorm. In almost every other situation, the mana break is a better choice. Mirana has very high stat gain which makes her a great Manta Style carrier. Having illusions with mana break is very strong in all stages of the game, and particularly strong in the late game.

Level 25: -80 Moonlight Shadow Cooldown or +2 Multishot Sacred Arrows

The reduced cooldown will give Moonlight Shadow a 30s cooldown and a 15 second downtime. This sounds quite strong, although this is quite easily countered by a Gem of True Sight and/or Dota 2 Wards and Dusts. On the other hand, the multishot gives PotM potentially 2 more long duration stuns and effectively triples the effectiveness of Sacred Arrow. Granted, they are much harder to land, but they are essentially 2 free Sacred Arrows.

The Ideal Mirana Item Build

Starting Items

  • Wraith Band
  • Iron Branch
  • Faerie Fire
  • Tango (Shared)
  • Tango
  • Healing Salve
  • Clarity

Mirana’s early game base damage is very low and you’ll usually have trouble last-hitting against any hero with higher damage. A Wraith Band and Iron Branches really help to remedy this and can be built into a Ring of Aquila, which is great on PotM. Depending on if you go off lane or mid and what you’re up against, you’ll want more or less health regen in the form of a Healing Salve and either your own Tangos, or shared by supports. If you have a roaming hero on your team who you might be able to combo with and have kill potential with, then you may want to get a Clarity to make sure that you always have mana to cast Sacred Arrow.

Early Game Items

Ring of Aquila

A Ring of Aquila is a great item on Mirana because it gives her lots of damage which she lacks in the early game, and mana regen to fuel her spell-casting.

Bottle

If you’re in the mid lane, you’ll usually want a Bottle as it will be your primary form of HP regen in the early and mid game. If you’re facing a hero who is unable to deal much harass damage to you, you could skip it, but it’s a good pickup on Mirana and lets her use Starstorm more freely to farm faster.

Phase Boots

Phase Boots are good on Potm because they give her more right-click damage and the increased movement speed stacks well with the movement speed from Leap. This also helps you to position yourself for Sacred Arrows and get in range for Starstorm more easily.

Magic Wand

A Magic Wand will give PotM a bit more sustainability in the early game and the burst HP and mana regen will often be just enough to let her cast a Leap to safety or Moonlight Shadow to help her team out.

Dragon Lance

A Dragon Lance gives Mirana some great stats and allows her to attack from a safer distance away. It can also be built into a Hurricane Pike later if you need one.

Maelstrom

A Maelstrom gives Mirana more DPS and is especially good against creep and illusion heroes. It also helps her to farm creep-waves and jungle camps much more efficiently. It works well on PotM as she has quite high attack speed in the mid and late game.

Mid Game Items

Hurricane Pike

A Hurricane Pike can be a great item on PotM as it lets her kite heroes very easily and escape enemies without having to use Leap. If you do use Leap after using Pike on an enemy, you will be able to attack them from wherever you land with the added bonus of the extra attack speed. Just be careful about which direction you Leap, and make sure you will still have vision of the enemy.

Manta Style

Manta Style is a great item on Mirana because she has very high agility gain which translates into very high damage output on her illusions. The purge from Manta is also very good against silences and slows. The movement speed is also a nice bonus and stacks well with Phase Boots and Leap.

Diffusal Blade

The Manabreak from Diffusal Blade works great in conjunction with Manta Style, as her illusions with high DPS also gain the Manabreak passive. The active slow is also very good for kiting and chasing down enemies. With the Mana Break talent at level 15, you and your illusions will drain 75 mana on each attack. The best Dota 2 players will usually build both items in their games.

Late Game Items

Monkey King Bar

If there is lots of evasion on the enemy team, then an MKB can be a good pickup on Mirana. The attack speed is gained by your illusions as well, although they do not proc the extra damage.

Butterfly

A Butterfly gives you lots of agility and attack speed, making your illusions very powerful if you have a Manta Style. The evasion will tank you up against physical damage dealers, and the Flutter active will allow you to escape or re-position yourself in fights much more easily.

Mjollnir

A Mjollnir is a great item against illusion and creep heroes, especially if you already have a Maelstrom. Generally it’s only worth upgrading a Maelstrom into a Mjollnir if you’re in the late game and need to make use out of your inventory slots.

Desolator

A Desolator can be a great damage item on PotM if you have some minus-armor spells on your team as you’ll be able to deal a lot of physical damage. It can be a great item against lineups with squishy heroes.

Situational Items

Black King Bar

A BKB is a good pickup against lineups with lots of magical damage or disables. Mirana is generally quite hard to lockdown, but if there is an excessive amount of disables/nukes then you will probably need a BKB to start winning fights.

Linken’s Sphere

A Linken’s Sphere is a great item against lineups with strong single-target spells. You can get it as a first major item on PotM as it provides great stats and makes you much harder to kill.

Mask of Madness

A MoM can be good if you’re against a lineup with relatively low physical damage, or heroes that can’t punish you for the minus armor de-buff.

Drum of Endurance

A Drum of Endurance can be a decent pickup if you’re in the off lane position and need to tank up. The early and mid game utility it provides isn’t as valuable for a mid PotM as the gold is often better spent on other items

Aghanim’s Scepter

An Agh’s can be a great item on Mirana if you’re against illusion or creep heroes. It helps you to farm faster and contribute more in team-fights. It can be a great item on a roaming Mirana as it offers her a natural way to farm a bit faster in the mid and late game and stay relevant. In most games, there are better core items you can build for the same price which are more effective on PotM, however.

Bloodthorn

A Bloodthorn can be a good item on Mirana, if you can make good use out of the silence and true strike components it provides. It can certainly help you climb the Dota 2 leaderboard faster.

Nullifier

A Nullifier can be a good item if you’re against a line-up with lots of strong buffs that make them hard to kill. The stats it provides aren’t particularly useful for Potm, as the damage isn’t applied to illusions and the armor isn’t always very helpful.

Ethereal Blade

An Ethereal Blade can be a decent pickup if you have an Aghanim’s Scepter and are against a lineup that is vulnerable to magical damage. The slow it provides makes it much easier to land Sacred Arrows, and if you’re close enough to the target they will take a double dose of Starstorm with -40% magic resistance. The nuke damage it provides stacks well with the agility it provides and Mirana’s high agility gain.

Dangerous Match-ups to be aware of

Disruptor

Although Disruptor can Glimpse you into a Static Storm and often kill you if he has help, you can leap out of his Kinetic Field. A Linken’s Sphere might be a god pickup against him.

Slark

You cannot Leap out of the Pounce leash, so wait until it’s over. He can also purge himself of the Sacred Arrow stun if he’s fast.

Reliable disables

Stuns and banishments/sleeps are great items to set up your Sacred Arrows.

Projectile stunners

Spells like Storm Hammer can be disjointed by Leap if you’re fast enough.

Clockwerk

You can Leap out of Power Cogs which makes it very hard for Clock to punish you.

Ancient Apparition

Cold Feet poses little threat as you can Leap away before it freezes you, so just be careful about being greedy and using Leap too late.

Strong dispels

Abaddon and Oracle both have strong dispels that purge enemies from the Sacred Arrow stun. These two are some of the hardest Dota 2 heroes for Mirana to play against.

Silences

Silences prevent Mirana from using Leap and escaping to safety. A BKB or a Manta Style can good options to help her survive fights.

True sight

Sentry Wards, Dusts, gems and spells that provide True Sight are very effective in countering Moonlight Shadow.
