Double Down 2022 Smash Major finally taking place this weekend
Double Down 2022 is taking place in Vegas, and bringing together some of the top competition in competitive Smash Bros. This is a tournament with a lot of hype behind it. It has already been delayed twice, but it is finally going to go ahead this week.
This is how Double Down is going to work and which competitors are worth watching out for in the bracket.
Double Down 2022 takes place in Vegas
Double Down is a new Smash Major that will take place July 8-10th. This tournament is a new Major for Smash Bros. It followed on from the previous Royal Flush. The event has unfortunately had quite a few delays. It started off as scheduled for June 5-7th 2020. However, it was first delayed because of coronavirus restrictions, being pushed to March 25-27th 2022. This date was delayed too, until we reach the actual date of the tournament in July.
Now, it looks like Double Down 2022 will live up to the build-up. Held in Vegas as part of the Smash World Tour 2022. Even with the Panda Circuit in full procession at the moment, the Smash World tour still represents the main esports cups for Melee and Ultimate.
The tournament gets its double down name from its location. It’s being held at a Casino in Vegas. Along with the recent Smash tournament at e-Caribana music festival, a casino tournament is a unique locale.
Double Down 2022 Events Breakdown
The events at Double Down 2022 look fairly standard for a Smash Bros tournament, but with some differences. There are going to be Melee singles and doubles, along with Ultimate singles and doubles. The singles sections are where most people’s hype is at the highest. These are the biggest events at the tournament. Doubles is always fun too though.
Outside of those two, there’s some interesting side events taking place. These include random stage singles, Pokéball singles, random character singles, and Ultimate G&W Hammer matches. Side events give the chance to see pros playing the game in a way that uses more of its content that standard Smash.

What to Expect at Double Down 2022
The Double Down 2022 Smash tournament is going to feature some of the biggest names in Smash. There’s been some unexpected wins recently, but if you’re looking at the top players there’s some stand outs. In Melee, Zain has been on an insane run lately. This year alone he’s won Pound and GENESIS. However, Hungrybox, iBDW, and Plup have all also had some great results lately.
In Ultimate, things are more open. Since Sonix rose to the top of the pile playing sonic things have been a bit hard to predict! MKLeo remains the player to beat, especially with his recent wins. Although, most high-ranking players from this year’s tournaments will be here. Barring the recently retired Sparg0, most of the top players will be here. One factor to watch for is the growing strength of Steve players. Smash fans have made no secret of their frustration with the character, and a Steve main taking the win here might be a likely, if unpopular, outcome. You’ll have to catch Double Down 2022 gto see how it plays out though.
