Apex Legends is a fun Battle Royale but it can also be a competitively rewarding game. There’s no better way to show off your skill than by your placement in the Apex ranking system. This decides what level of opponents you’re up against but it also proves your skill level in the game. The Apex Legends ranking system is your entry point to Apex tournaments too, so it’s always better to be higher in the system!

Like with any big game though, the ranking system in Apex Legends is a bit more complicated than it might seem on the surface. We’ve broken down what you need to know about ranking tiers, what they mean, and how to rise up the Apex ranks.

Apex Legends Ranking System

The Apex Legends ranking system was first introduced in the second season of the game. While Apex mobile got there straight away, the full game took a season to wind up competitively! However, it’s become a major part of the title. Players in Apex and Apex Mobile like to see their rank and how they compare to the rest of the world’s players. The Apex ranks are only a factor in Ranked play though, not the standard pubs.

Ranked mode lets you queue up and play against other teams who are sorted closer to you in rank. The entire player base is divided up into the ranks to better match you with players in your skill level. The ranks are broken up into seven tiers, with divisions within each tier. This is how it all works and the amount of RP you need for each:

Apex Rank System

  • Bronze – 0 RP+
  • Silver – 1200 RP+
  • Gold – 2,800 RP
  • Platinum – 4,800 RP
  • Diamond – 4,200 RP
  • Master – 10,000 RP
  • Apex Predator – Top 750 Players with 10,000 RP +

Apex predator is the top achievement for the game. It’s the top players on each platform, so there’s a different set of players on PC than elsewhere. The Apex ranking system treats this as the very height of skill!

How Does the Apex Rank System Effect Matchmaking?

The Apex Rank system is probably most important in terms of how it impacts matchmaking. You’re going to be sorted into the same lobbies as players with a similar rank. However, it isn’t always exactly the same rank. Players close to you in the Apex ranking system can be in your games even if they’re not in your exact tier.

For teams, it gets a little more complicated. You can play with friends in other ranks but only if you’re within two tiers of them. A Platinum player can’t queue up to drop into Bronze matches with the rest of their team. This keeps things fair, but it’s an important distinction to keep in mind.

RP in Apex Legends Ranking System

RP is the competitive points that you’re going to grind to rise up the rankings in Apex Legends. These points are awarded depending on how you perform. As you get more RP, you’ll move up to the next tier. However, you can also move down tiers if you don’t perform at your best.

How to Get RP

RP is awarded in Apex Legends when you play well, but it gets a bit more complicated than just points for a win. You get points for placement in games, starting from being in the top 13 and ending at 100 for being the match winner. Kills will net you RP too, along with getting assists. This is capped out at six though so you will need placement points if you want to gain RP quickly.

If you can manage to win a game and get all six takedowns, you’ll get 250 RP. That’s the cap for RP for the ranking system in Apex. So even if you win consistently it’ll take a while to move up a tier.

RP Entry Fees

In higher tiers of the Apex Legends ranking system, you lose RP for each game you play. This means that a below-standard game will be a net negative. In higher tiers, you’ll need to gain a lot of RP per match just to break even! This is how the fees come out:

  • Bronze – 0 RP
  • Silver – 12 RP
  • Gold – 24 RP
  • Platinum – 36
  • Diamond – 48 RP
  • Master and Apex Predator – 60 RP

You can also lose RP as a penalty. If you quit a game while your teammates could still revive you, you get a penalty. This will increase the more you do it. Penalties can rack up if you’re prone to rage quitting!

That’s how all of the Apex ranks work and how you can rise up them. They’re simple to understand for the most part. Although, if you’re quitting games or trying to queue with more casual friends you can run into problems! Getting up to the highest tiers is going to be difficult though. Top 750 is an achievement even for the best players in the game. If you can have consistent results though, you can progress through the ranking system in Apex Legends and get a score that you can show off.
