Call of Duty Warzone was first released in 2020, with the follow-up title, Warzone 2, dropping in 2022. It quickly became a disappointing update for some, with the platform undergoing many changes that served to stand it apart from the original title, which many millions of players fell in love with. However, even though the new platform boasted an upgraded anti-cheat engine, there was no doubting the fact that Warzone 2 hacks were definitely a problem – and still are.
It’s one of the biggest flaws of the popular battle royale ecosystem – there seems to be no stopping the Warzone 2 hacks from flowing. In the past, Activision has taken it upon itself to sue cheat providers, but despite pursuing legal proceedings, more platforms providing Warzone 2 hacks keep surfacing. It’s one of the biggest blockers for the platform to fully succeed, and as it has been a problem since Warzone first released, players don’t believe it’ll ever end.
Will Warzone 2 cheats and hacks bring an end to the battle royale platform?
For years, Warzone players have been plagued by malicious operators in the game that are running cheats and hacks. For the most part, these cheats are made up of three common elements:
There are other cheats and Warzone 2 hacks, such as permanent radar mechanics, unlock tools and even ‘lagswitch’ hacks that can bring a lobby to its knees. It’s a huge issue for Activision and its sub-studios, such as Raven Software and Infinity Ward, and despite installing anti-cheat software, the situation has never really improved. As Warzone 2 is free to play, it costs nothing for banned hackers to make a new account and get straight back into the game.
For the legitimate, honest players, nothing is more frustrating than playing an entire game only to lose in the final seconds to an opponent running Warzone 2 cheats.
Unfortunately, there are no tactics that can be used to avoid players running Warzone 2 hacks. It’s a coin-flip of a situation, and you’ll never know if there’s a cheater in your lobby until you actually run into them. However, it must be stressed that not all Warzone 2 cheats are unstoppable, and some of them will only give the player the ability to see opponents through walls, for example.
These kinds of cheats can be countered by simply being better than the cheater. They might know where you are in the room, but if you have better gun skills, then you genuinely have a chance at defeating them. There’s nothing players can do aside from placing a little faith and dependency on Activison and all associated studios to ultimately deal with the hacker problem in Warzone 2. It’s a sad fact, but players have been cheating in Call of Duty for well over a decade, and it isn’t likely to stop overnight. As the anti-cheat software becomes more sophisticated, so too do the hacks and cheats themselves.
It’s almost impossible to beat aimbot hacks, but if a cheater is running nothing more than ESP or wallhacks, then you do have a small chance at victory. It’s a good idea to arm yourself as best as possible against these cheaters, making use of the best Warzone 2 audio settings, for example. If you can hear or see them coming, you can fight back.

So, we’ve established that there’s a clear issue with Warzone 2 hacks being used by malicious players in the game. However, that’s far from being the only reason why legitimate players aren’t all that happy with the Warzone 2 platform. But why is that, and why did Warzone 2 not perform very well at launch?
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that anything will change anytime soon. There are expectations that another map will be introduced in the future, but in what capacity, it’s totally unknown. For instance, Verdansk (2020) was ultimately updated with a ‘retro-themed’ map before being destroyed by a nuclear explosion during a sequence in 2021. Then, another map surfaced named ‘Caldera’.
This was originally a World War II-themed map based on a Pacific island setting, but then it was modernised shortly after being released. It was never really appreciated and it was the turning point for the franchise. This only got worse when Warzone 2 was released, with more players falling out of love with the battle royale ecosystem.

Ultimately, it’s not as though there are cheat codes for Warzone 2 that players are making use of in every single match. It must be stressed that the average player could go a dozen matches without coming across a single cheater – but that one cheater could ruin an entire session. It’s a sad fact, but the potential for being killed by someone running Warzone 2 hacks is something of a fact of life now – it’s just something the community has to deal with.
At least, until Activision permanently resolves the issue – which is almost guaranteed to never happen.
For the most part, Warzone 2 is a solid game, even if it is a slower-paced, heavier-feeling version compared to Warzone (2020). It boasts a wide range of weapons, a large, open map, and a standalone mode called DMZ, which serves as Activision’s first entry into the extraction shooter genre. It’s not a terrible game, it’s just ruined somewhat by those running Warzone 2 cheats.
