ALGS 2023 Split 2 Playoffs Format & Teams

The ALGS 2023 Split 1 Playoffs is the second big international competition for this year’s Apex Pro League. It’s a live event with everyone competing together by LAN. It’s being held in London, at the Copper Box Arena.

40 Teams in total are going to be taking part. These are the squads that have proven themselves at regional events. While quite a few teams have withdrawn recently, there are some new competitors entering that should ensure we’re getting an exciting mix. Hopefully, these playoffs can avoid some of the bugs that have plagued past events.

The ALGS 2023 Split 1 Playoffs took place from February 2-5. TSM was the among the top teams to watch in the Split 1 Playoffs, and they surely delivered. NRG and Acend took the remaining leading spots at this event.

For the ALGS 2023 Split 2 Playoffs we are looking at three different event stages. It kicks off with the Group Stage, where 40 teams are broken into four groups of ten. Each group will have 6 games played. Over the course of the 18 games, they’ll earn points to move up or down the leaderboard. This decides the seeding for the ALGS 2023 Split 2 Playoffs. The 20 teams who place the highest in this stage move on to the winners bracket. The 20 lowest teams will start out the losers bracket in the Losers Round 1.

ALGS 2023 Split 2 Bracket Stage

The next stage of the competition is the bracket. A Battle Royale with high player counts doesn’t really do brackets in the same way that a fighting game or two-team shooters would though. The brackets are a 6-game series for the winners, but there are two separate 6-game series’ for the losers. The winners bracket holds its series first, with the ten highest placing teams moving directly forward to the finals. The lower-placing teams will then move down to the losers bracket’s second round.

The top 10 teams from the first round move forward and join the lower-placing teams in the second round. The final top 10 teams after this might it back into the Playoffs and will re-join the rest of the competition in the finals.

It’s less complicated than it sounds! These brackets are a really fun way to add progression and seeding into a game that needs high player counts. We could even see a team run all the way from losers.

ALGS 2023 Split 2 Playoffs – Finals

The Finals for the ALGS 2023 Split 2 Playoffs take place in July. Only 20 teams have made it this far into the tournament. The scoring and placement work a bit differently here, as the match Point rule is in competition.

With Match Point, if a team gets to 50 points, they become eligible for the ‘Match Point”. After that, a team that manages to win a game outright is crowned the winner early. The rest of the teams’ placement is then just decided by the total points. As many teams as is necessary can become eligible for the Match Point. There is no limit. This means teams can’t really rely on picking up more points later in the series, Match Point could draw everything to an early finish

The 10 teams who start the finals from the winners bracket get advanced starting points on the leaderboard here, so the losers bracket teams have a gap to close from the very outset of the finals.

Prize Pool

The ALGS 2023 Split 2 Playoffs feature a prize pool of $1,000,000. Pretty impressive for one of many events on the lead-up to the eventual grand finals. Only 20 teams out of 40 get a share of the prize pool. The rest of the competitors receive no cash from the prize pool, but they still gain some Playoff points to contribute to the overall season. Alongside these prizes, there are two more awards with a cash prize for players. These are for the Apex Predator, the player who gets the most elimination, and the MVP.
