The Sadge emote is one of many popular emotes used on Twitch. Like a few others such as the Monkas emote it features Pepe the Frog. This specific emote is a flattened out Pepe. In general, the frog is looking really quite sad, dejected and completely deflated. A lot of Twitch emotes use Pepe the frog to convey emotion. The meaning of the emote isn’t down to the choice to use Pepe, but rather the emotion that this specific Pepe is displaying. This particular version of Pepe together with the PepeD Emote, are the most widely accepted versions of this “controversial” figure. The emote is part of BetterTTV and used on 943 channels.

There is also another song commonly used to pair with a Sadge moment. The song called 1997 Spring by composer Ryo Yoshimata originally made for the Between Calm And Passion movie.
Use Sadge in Twitch chat when something “sad” appears or when your favorite team loses a round if you follow esports. You can have the meme show up by writing Sadge or :sadge: in chat, but in general just writing Sadge will be understood by everyone in chat.
