Genshin Impact for Switch: Everything We Know So Far
Genshin Impact has been one of the mega hits created by miHoYo (now HoYoverse). Since its launch in September 2020, it’s gone on to capture audiences worldwide. Although it is available for gameplay on various platforms, including PC, iOS, Android, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox, it is conspicuously absent in Nintendo Switch. Despite an announcement in 2020 regarding a Switch version, as of December 2024, it has yet to materialize.

Genshin Impact Switch Release Date: Is it coming?
In January 2020, miHoYo confirmed that their game, Genshin Impact, would be ported to the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, that coveted event’s arrival is taking forever. It is speculated that the much bigger open-world experience of this game could be too heavy for the hardware of the console.
In May 2022, HoYoverse’s global PR specialist, Xin Yang, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the Switch release, stating that it was “still in development” with more information to be shared as progress continues. However, they didn’t pinpoint any specific date associated with the game’s release confirmation, which is a real problem in ongoing speculation within the gaming community at large.
Some enthusiasts say that the game will probably end up being optimized for a possible successor to the existing Switch, considering those hardware issues. As of December 2024, there have been no further official updates regarding the Nintendo Switch version of Genshin Impact. The game’s official website and social media channels have not provided new information, leaving fans to await further announcements.
As much as there’s still a possibility of Genshin Impact on the Nintendo Switch, the lack of any information only serves to conjure things up in smoke. Anyone looking to play the game on this device should expect a longer wait while keeping watch over any of the official channels for further developments.
What Reddit Users Have to Say
Many on Reddit are saying that hardware limitations might be a major issue. Some have highlighted that even the PS4 cannot run the game properly. Storage requirements may also be an issue. Users think that the game’s size may require a dedicated SD card for players.
Speculations for the delay include that maybe miHoYo was awaiting the new hardware of Switch which did not come due to COVID-19 and worldwide chip shortages.
On a more positive end, some users argued the game can run on Switch hardware via Android, claiming with proper optimization, all might be overcome. Others still feel that the delay points to miHoYo having strategic priorities with consoles not being a central point with the developers.
